Hello everyone! How are you? I hope you’re doing well.
I’ve been rather busy this month but have got my reading in where possible (mostly at school).
The end of the month means another ‘Books I Read in…’ post so here it is.
DISCLAIMER: May include SPOILERS! Read at your own risk! I am not trying to claims any of these books of my own. All rights go to the authors.
1) ’The Tattooist of Auschwitz’ by Heather Morris.

I tattooed a number on her arm. She tattooed her name on my heart. In 1942, Lale Sokolov arrived in Auschwitz-Birkenau. He was given the job of tattoing the prisoners marked for survival – scratching numbers into his fellow victims’ arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust. Waiting in line to be tattooed, terrified and shaking, was a young girl. For Lale – a dandy, a jack-the-lad, a bit of a chancer – it was love at first sigh. And he was determined not only to survive himself, but to ensure this woman, Gita, did too. So begins one of the most life-affirming, courageous, unforgettable and human stories of the Holocaust: the love story of the Tattooist of Auschwitz.

It feels a crim to say I enjoyed reading this book but it’s the truth. It tells a very interesting story of Lale’s time spent in Auschwitz and although the nature of the book is tough, it really conveys how bad those camps were for many of the prisoners. I take History as an A-Level and felt this was a book that should definitely be on my reading list this year. I’ve umm’d and arr’d over it for years and am glad now I’ve finally read it. The ending was also very heart-warming. A good ending to such a bad time. Many of the points of this book kept me gripped and made me hold my breath wondering what would happen next. Yes, some parts did make me shed a couple of tears but many of the parts were uplifting at times too. 100% recommended especially if you’re interested in History.
2) ‘One Of Us Is Lying’ by Karen M. McManus.

A geek, a jock, a criminal, a princess. A murder. Everyone has secrets. How far would you go to protect yours? Five students at Bayview High must stay late at school but only four of them leave alive. Bronwyn, Cooper, Nate and Addy all became suspects in a murder. Who do you believe?

Wow! Now, you see, I don’t normally read this genre – teen-crime novels aren’t usually my thing but I’m starting to think they need to be after reading this! Gripping book from start to finish that often keeps you biting your nails and sitting on the edge of your seat. It made me laugh, cry, and feel injustice but also it taught me a couple of life lessons throughout. A great book that converys how a group of people who hardly know each other can come together in a time of need and help each other out. Surprising friendships, shocking secrets and framed murder are the main themes in this book. Also Nate and Bronwyn are now my OTP! I can not wait to read the sequel; ‘One of Us Is Lying’!!!
3) ‘Slated’ by Teri Terry.
Kyla’s memory has been erased, her personality wiped blank, her memories lost for ever. She’s been Slated. The government claims she was a terrorist, and that they are giving her a second chance – as long as she plays by their rules. But echoes of the past whisper in Kyla’s mind. Someone is lying to her, and nothing is as it seems. Who can she trust in her search for the truth?

So, I read half of this and started to get slightly bored of it but not bored enough to DNF it. I think I just needed something different to then motivate me to complete the book. I also had another book on my tbr (One Of Us Is Next) which I really wanted to read and so decided to put this one on hold for the time being. I will return to this in April where my review will appear.
4) ‘One Of Us Is Next’ by Karen M. McManus.
Welcome back to Bayview High… It’s been a year since the events of One Of Us Is Lying. But nothing has settled the residents of Bayview. Not now someone has started playing a sinister game of Truth or Dare. Choose truth? You must reveal your darkest secret. Choose Dare? Well, that could be even mire dangerous. Even deadly. When the game takes an even darker turn, suddenly no one at Bayview High knows who to trust. But they need to find out who is behind the game, before it’s too late.

Again, I haven’t finshed this one yet (almost, but not yet) so this will also appear in next month’s book blog post. I’ve just been too busy recently to read much.
What did you read in March? I would love to know so please leave a comment.
