Books I Read in August 2021

Helloooo everyone! How are you? I hope you’re doing well.

The end of the month means another ‘Books I Read in…’ post so here it is.

DISCLAIMER: May include SPOILERS! Read at your own risk! I am not trying to claims any of these books of my own. All rights go to the authors.

1) ‘The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4’ by Sue Townsend.

FRIDAY JANUARY 2ND: I felt rotten today. It’s my mother’s fault for singing ‘My Way’ at two o’clock in the morning at the top of the stairs. Just my luck to have a mother like her. There is a chance my parents could be alcoholics. Next year I could be in a children’s home. Meet Adrian Mole, a hapless teenager providing an unabashed, pimples-and-all glimpse into adolescent life. Telling us candidly about his parents’ marital troubles, The Dog, his life as a tortured poet and ‘misunderstood intellectual’, plus his burgeoning love for the divine Pandora. Adrian’s painfully honest diary is a hilarious and heartfelt chronicle of misspent adolescence.

This book is funny and juevenile (as to be expected from a book in the persepective of a 13-year-old boy). I had some good laughs and some eye-roll moments but all in all it was quite interesting to read a book from a teenage boys perspective (being a teenage girl myself).

Rating: 3/5.

2) ‘The Minute I Saw You’ by Paige Toon.

When Hannah meets Sonny, she’s irresistibly drawn to him: he’s sexy and confidant, but only in town on holiday. That’s fine with Hannah – she doesn’t do long-term relationships. And luckily for her, neither does Sonny. But before they can even so much as kiss, Sonny recieves some shocking news and commits to making serious life changes, ones that can’t and won’t involve romance. With even a short fling now off the cards, Hannah and Sonny settle for being friends. But as summer hots up and their chemistry shows no sign of cooling, they start to question their reasons for shutting each other out. Are they both too broken to find love? And if they tear down the walls between them, will they still like what’s on the other side?

Loved it! 100% recommend. A book of heartache and traumatic experiences but all in all a lovely read that’s so beautiful when it all comes together. I enjoyed the journey of learning of both Hannah and Sonny’s pasts. It made me cry at times but mostly it made me smile. I enjoyed watching Hannah and Sonny figure out their feelings for each other too. Watching them revel in the anticipation of Sonny’s 6-month wait. Thank you for gracing us with this beautiful read Paige Toon.
