‘Gone’ Book Review

Helloooo Everyone! I hope you all are well!

‘Gone’ was one of my book choices for September and the only one I finished. I mentioned it in my September favourites blog post (please go check that out).

SUDDENLY IT’S A WORLD WITHOUT ADULTS AND NORMAL HAS CRASHED AND BURNED. WHEN LIFE AS YOU KNOW IT ENDS AT 15 EVERYTHING CHANGES. A small town in southern California: In the blink of an eye everyone over the age of 15 disappears. Cut off from the outside world, those that are left are trapped and there’s no help on the way. Chaos rules the streets. Now a new world order is rising and, even scarier, some survivors have power – mutant power that no one has ever seen before…

‘Gone’ is the first book in the ‘gone series’ by Micheal Grant. This is a dystopian/occult/paranormal fiction. The book experiences themes of loss, fear and power.

We follow a range of characters through a 3rd person narrative. We are first introduced to ’Sam Temple’ who opens the story with the first ‘poof’. ‘Poof’ is how another main character, ‘Quinn Gaither’, describes the vanishings of adults. We watch as kids of different abilities and backgrounds fight for power and survival. We also see what hunger for power can do to people. We experience loss of adults and friends over the age of 15.

As a 15-year-old myself, I found this book particularly interesting and entertaining. I was contantly wondering what it would be like and feel like if this was to happen in the real world. It humoured me to think that some of us would never cope.

I enjoy reading books like this. For example, ’The Hunger Games’ by Suzanne Collins, ‘Divergent’ by Veronica Roth and ’The maze runner’ by James Dashner. I find it easier to get lost in a distopian land where we experience teenagers doing what they can and being resourceful.

I rate this book a 4/5. It could be a little dead at times but I still loved it and would 100% recommend it. I can’t wait to read the next books in the series.

Thank you for reading this review. I hope you have a great week.
