Hello everyone! I hope you all are well.
Sticking with the school theme, this week I thought I would talk about the subjects I am taking. These are the subjects I have been studying in depth for the past 2 years. I will be doing my GCSEs on these subjects.
English Literature
– Why I chose the subject:
This subject is compulsory which means I have no choice over taking it. However, if I did have the choice I probably would have chosen it anyway.
– What I like about the subject:
We do a lot of reading in English Literature which I like because I have always really enjoyed reading in my free time. I also really like the fact that we cover a wide range of texts in this class, from Shakespeare to Charles Dickens and poetry (although I find the poetry boring).
– Subject rating out of 5:
I rate English Literature a 4. I enjoy the subject but it isn’t my favourite. It can be boring and repetitive at times.
English Language
– Why I chose the subject:
This subject is also compulsory. I have to take it.
– What I like about the subject:
I used to love English Language. I always used to be good at remembering the words used and why and when they were used (i.e. alliteration and metaphors) but now I find it boring and I often dread going into English Language wondering what we’ll be doing because I’m just not interested.
– Subject rating out of 5:
3. Boring and a little hard but not the worst subject I take.
Maths
– Why I chose the subject:
Again, compulsory.
– What I like about the subject:
I like how maths is the same in every country. Everyone does things the same way with maths (essentially). We count the same and add and take away the same way. There isn’t much to go wrong in another country with maths. My favourite part of maths is arithmetic.
– Subject reating out of 5:
3. Not my favourite. I’m okay at maths but I just don’t find it very interesting.
Biology
– Why I chose the subject:
This is compulsory. All the sciences are. However, I’m taking seperate sciences (learning all the sciences seperately rather than together with combined sciences. This means we go more in depth and cover more topics in each individual science).
– What I like about the subject:
Biology is my favourite science. I like learning about the human body and why different functions are linked to different things within our body or why something may happen within our bodies. I find it really interesting.
– Subject rating out of 5:
4. I don’t find it particularly easy but it is very interesting.
Chemistry
– Why I chose the subject:
It is compulsory. It is also one of the seperate sciences I have to take.
– What I like about the subject:
Learning how to do the experiments and what the different chemicals and reactions and things are. The experiments can be fun but I’m not the best at them. I’m not very quick when doing a lot of things. I like to take my time and can be quite the perfectionist so I struggle to stick to the time limits when doing experiments in chemistry.
– Subject rating out of 5:
3. Most of it I find boring and the experiments can be annoying sometimes but apart from that it’s okay.
Physics
-Why I chose the subject:
Again, compulsory. If I had the choice of whether to take it or not, I would have chosen not to.
– What I like about the subject:
Nothing. I really don’t like physics. It’s not my favourite. I find it hard and confusing and boring. I’m just not interested. I can never remember the equation formulas or what to do with all the numbers. I just find it annoying, yet I wish I was good at it because you can learn the way the world works (i.e. gravity and forces) which I think is cool.
– Subject rating out of 5:
1. Not a subject for me.
Music
– Why I chose the subject:
This subject is not compulsory… Yay! I actually chose this subject. I always knew I wanted to take music from being very young. I’ve always been very musically inclined. I was in the orchestra playing the clarinet in Primary School. I was in my Primary school’s chior and the towns Girls Chior. I had singing lessons a couple of years ago and did a grade 3 in which I recieved a distinction. I
– What I like about the subject:
It’s more relaxed than all the others. There’s more space for creativity and individualism (and a little bit of showing off what you can do) yet you are learning actual skills like playing instruments and learning how to keep to a rhythm. It’s hard at times. For example, a task we have just been asked to do is to change a certain song from one genre to another and I’m not that creative so I’m finding it extremely difficult.
-Subject rating out of 5:
4. I mostly love it but don’t feel particularly fulfilled by it.
Drama
– Why I chose the subject:
I chose drama becuase I have always had a bit of a passion for acting. Whether that be the school musical or reading off of a script for an assignment or doing a play in English and acting it out a the front. I love it.
– What I like about the subject:
Not only does it allow you to act and make up scenarios but it lets you learn about how to get the final product. You can learn about all the little bits that go into making a film or behind the scenes in a play and everyone involved and when or how they get involved. It’s so interesting and fun. The coursework can sometimes be annoying becuase I’d rather be on a stage with a script but I try to take it in my stide and do the best I can with it.
– Subject rating out of 5:
5. One of my favourite subjects. I truly love it and can’t wait to get back to school and stuck into acting again.
History
– Why I chose the subject:
The flightpath sheet that I had to choose my subjects from at the end of year 8 told me I had to choose a humanity type of subject from the top box. The choices were history, geography and Religious Studies. Now if you know me, you’ll know that I’m not religious and I’m really not great at geography. So history was the only one I was suited too. When I chose the subject, I wasn’t to happy with my decision. I was questioning why I’d taken it when I had found that year that I wasn’t particularly interested in it. I’m now so glad I chose to take it becuase I love it. It’s a very interesting and informative subject.
– What I like about the subject:
We can learn about our ancestors experiences and learn from the past and try not to repeat it.
– Subject rating out of 5:
5. It’s really interesting and I love learning about the past.
French
– Why I chose the subject:
Though this subject wasn’t compulsory, it kind of was. Becuase of the flightpath I was on, I had to take a language and the only on that was offered to my year was French. If it was Spanish I would be happy because I find that easier to learn and I really like the language but French is really hard.
– What I like about the subject:
Some of the words are similar to English. We call them ‘Cognates’. I think it’s pretty funny that that happens and it makes learning the language a little bit easier.
– Subject rating out of 5:
2. Not as bad as Physics but I just don’t enjoy the subject.
PE
– Why I chose the subject:
This subject is compulsory. I have to take this subject twice a week. On one day it is inside and one day it is outside. I prefer to do the inside PE lessons especially in Winter becuase I don’t like the cold all that much.
– What I like about the subject:
It physically pushes me to test my abilities and improve my skills.
– Subject rating out of 5:
4. I quite like PE – as long as we are inside.
Thank you for reading. I hope you have a fantastic week.
