Hello everyone! I hope you all are well.
The day this was posted was my first day back at school since March 19th 2020. My school shut a little earlier than most when COVID started in the UK as it didn’t have enough staff to make the school safe enough to be open. It’s been a while but I’m actually happy to be going back and getting stuck into another school year.
I am going into Year 11, so this is my last year in mainsteam schooling. I always remember thinking, ‘Oh, Year 11 is ages away. My GCSEs are ages away. I don’t need to worry yet.’ Clearly I didn’t realise how quick time actually goes.
I still don’t think I have much to worry about just yet. My exams are still a little while away and the grades I’m getting at the minute are good. However, there is always room for improvement and I know what subjects I really need to concentrate in this year.
I’m not in school full time just yet. As there is still risk for all of us we are having a staggered start back at school so I have been in today for an hour and a half and I am doing online schooling for the rest of the week. Next week it will be all day Monday, Tuesday and Friday and then online schooling Wednesday and Thursday. After that I will be back at school full time.
As I have stated multiple times throughout that reel of speech, the school year has started up again so I have cleaned out my school bag and it is freshly packed with all my school essentials, so I thought I would write about what I have in there.

– My Planner

My planner is required for every class. We document any homework we get in there and when it’s due. We get stamps which is my school’s reward system. All our stamps equate to ‘reds’ which we can use to buy vouchers for food or clothing with). Our disciplin system also has a place in our planners (we get ’negative comments’ from the teachers for bad behaviour. If you get two negative comments in one lesson you get a detention. If you get 6-7 or more negative comments in a week you get put in isolation).
-My Folder

This isn’t required. However, I put all my work from during online learning in a folder to keep it all together and I thought it would probably be handy to take it into school just in case I need any of the work. It keeps it all together and at least I know I have my work and can reflect on it if I need to.
-My Pencil Case

Now I know the actual pencil case isn’t essential and neither is everything that I have put in mine however I have always taken a pencil case. I just think it’s the easiest way to keep everything together. I’m hardly ever that person in class that sits there like, ‘I don’t have a pen. Please can I borrow a pen?’ I’m often always the one giving people pens. The pens I gave people used to get stolen so I bought some cheap pens from Poundland to hand to people instead of giving people nice ones and them walking off with them. Now I can just give them one of the Poundland ones and if they walk off with ut, it doesn’t matter. Even when people try to give me them back, I tell them to keep it because they’ll need it for the rest of the day anyway.
In my pencil case, there is:
– Mildliners
– Black and blue pens from Poundland
– Bic ballpoint pens (Green, blue, black and red)
– Uniball eye fine ink pen
– Zebra Z-grip pen
– Pencils (normal and mechanical)
– Fineliners
– Casio Calculator
– Sharpener
– Eraser
– Ruler
– Plastic wallet

Again, not essential. However, I like having it to keep completed homework or uncompleted homework, any letters or leaflets in. It stops them from being crumpled up in the bottom of my bag and I am more likely to read the letters, remember them and not lose them (because I’m very good at doing that, oops). I also hate having crumpled up homework. I like to keep my homework nice and neat and present able becuase 90% of the time I would have spent quite a bit of time on the homework and put effort into it so I want to keep it in pristine condition.
– Mini Make-up Bag

I like to keep this in the front pocket of my bag to keep any essential I need in. It’s handy to keep all my little bits and pieces inside and away from my main school essentials.
Here’s what I keep in there:
– Reusable masks (particularly essential at the minute. I have a blue and a pink one)
– 4 hair bands
– Roll on deodrant
– Body mist
-Vaseline
– Carex hand sanitiser
– Tape to go over earrings during PE
– Period essentials for emergencies
– PE Kit

This obviously doesn’t stay in my school bag all the time as I only have PE twice a week. However on the days I have PE that is in there. I often forget my socks. I used to do it so often that I ended up setting reminders on my phone the day before PE.
So that is what’s in my bag so far. I may do this again at the end of the year and see what I kept up with.
Thank you for reading. I hope you have a great week.
